Friends

I got this in an email, and I know it's gooby, but it really reminded me of us. We all know that we don't all get to see each other or even talk to each other very often. And we feel closer to some than others. And some of us feel like others just aren't interested in remaining friends anymore. But the truth is that we are all in very different phases and places in our lives, and it is impossible for it to be exactly the same way it was from 1998-2002. In reading this, I found myself placing each of your names with a certain part, and I wanted to thank you all for being there for me, whether it was for just a few minutes or the rest of my life. My life would not be the same today if it weren't for each and every one of you! Enjoy!

"When I was little, I used to believe in the concept of one best friend, And then I became a woman. And then I found out that if you allow your heart to open up, God would show you the best in many friends. One friend is needed when you're going through things with your man. Another friend is needed when you're going through things with your mom. Another will sit beside you in the bleachers as you delight in your childrenand their activities. Another when you want to shop, share, heal, hurt, joke, or just be. One friend will say, 'Let's cry together,' Another, 'Let's fight together,' Another, 'Let's walk away together.' One friend will meet your spiritual need, Another, your shoe fetish, Another, your love for movies, Another will be with you in your season of confusion, Another will be your clarifier, Another, the wind beneath your wings. But whatever their assignment in your life, on whatever the occasion, On whatever the day, or wherever you need them to meet you with their gymshoes on and hair pulled back, or to hold you back from making a completefool of yourself Those are your best friends. It may all be wrapped up in one woman, But for many, it's wrapped up in several.. One from 7th grade, One from high school, Several from the college years, a couple from old jobs, On some days your mother, On some days your neighbor, On others, your sisters, And on some days, your daughters. So, whether they've been your friend for 20 minutes or 20 years, love them just the same!"

Preggers/Not Preggers

After checking Libby's blog this morning, I had to make a list.

Have child and/or pregnant:
Crissie
Kendy
Haley
Jessica
Libby

No children (yet):
Anisa
Meggan
Kassi
Christi
Megan
Penny
Jennie
Emily
Cooper

I don't know about all of you, but about once a week, I stumble upon an "I'm pregnant!" blog post. I needed to make the list so I didn't feel behind. :)

And I bet one of you on the no children list is probably pregnant and waiting to post. ;)

I think it's so nice that we all get to become "aunts" many times over. It is so much fun watching everyone's families grow and follow the life changes. I know that all of you will be great parents.

Congrats, Libs!

Love to you all.

A Lesson in Jamma History

"Shut UP!"

I could hear you all collectively saying this in my mind when I pulled it out of the box.
Today I've been unpacking some boxes, including a few that my parents have been storing at their house since May 2002. I've been out of town so much lately that I still have not finished getting the house together. Sucks, but it has to get done!
You all know the feeling when you are unpacking and you come across something that either A. you have completely forgotten about or B. you have wondered where it was for a long time but just could not put your hands on it. Well option B happend to me about an hour ago.
Imagine my surpirse when out of a box comes this:

I was so freaking excited! I have wondered where this little piece of history has been for so long. Don't get me wrong. I don't lose sleep over this or anything, but every once in a while it would cross my mind, and it bugged the heck out of me that I couldn't find it. Well, here it is in all it's Jamma glory. "Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!" (That, my friends, was the sound of angels singing, for those of you with no imagination that couldn't figure it out.)

This is the single item from which we derived the name of our amazing group of friends. The Jammas! We found these little, no, BIG 80's sleep shirts while rummaging around in the office at the Derge (That is the nickname of the DG house at State, for anyone out there who has no idea what I'm talking about...and no, I don't know if that is the correct spelling. It probably has never been put in print before. So, maybe that's another piece of history. I digress.)

Since it was a pajama shirt we, probably with too much discussion, shortened the name to jamma. I don't clearly remember the details, but I'm positive that some of us snatched them up and modeled them for some time, and the others of us rolled on the floor laughing in true Jamma style. Somewhere in the chaos that ensued we decided that The Jammas would be the name that we would go by forevermore.

While I could not afford to pay a supermodel to don this for our photoshoot, I did find a novice who told me she would do it for free. Sorry, she's not very well trained, but she's all I could afford:

And that, my dears, is a lesson in Jamma history!

P.S. Thank Libby for the precious new desing of the blog! She did a great job!

So You Think You Can Blog

Just wanted to let you all know, for what it's worth, I've started a blog for me & Michael. You may have run across it already in the past few months, but I haven't really told anyone about it because I wanted it to be cuter (I know this is not a word) before I posted. I'm seeing that this is not going to happen any time soon, so go ahead and check it out. The link is on the left. If you haven any pointers on how to do a cute background and all that jazz, let me know. I'd like the Jamma blog to get a facelift, as well.

Hope you are all having a great week! It was so good to see most of you this past weekend at Beebs' wedding!!

Libby, we're all looking for that contract....

Bert and I had a great time seeing Meggan and Wesley this weekend. My cousin was having a graduation party and it just so happened it was in Huntsville. It was so great to see Meggan and meet Wesley. Their house is so cute!

Nothing like some Jamma time...

New House!!

Well, we are on our way to getting a new house! This may be a surprise to some of you, since I haven't really said much about it, but it has been an extremely fast-moving process!! It all started last Tuesday when I called a friend to ask about a builder (we were thinking about building). Well, she told me about this house and how the builder really needed to sell it. Turns out he is going to buy our house and renovate it to re-sell, so we don't even have to do any work to it or try to sell it. He gave us a GREAT offer on our house, and a great deal on this one! This is probably the best luck we've ever had! Our soon-to-be new house is in Bainbridge subdivision in Madison County. I think we'll have a Canton address. It is such a cute neighborhood...it has a website if you want to check it out. www.bainbridgemadison.com If everything goes smoothly, we'll be closing by the end of the week and moving over the weekend. Whirlwind!! Some pics of the house are below. They don't do it justice, though. It is so much better looking in person, so you will all have to come visit!

Future Anchorman!

How is everyone? We are doing great at home. A baby is a lot more work than I thought, though! It is all worth it to see him grow and change. I miss hearing about yall and your lives. I think everyone should post an update. I need things to read at home all day. It will be like an adult conversation! Haley, I hope you are feeling better.

The Twin

So, I was online this morning and got another message from the person I was speaking of in yesterday's post.

"Weird. I must have a twin with the same name," he said.

Huh.

All of a sudden, I clicked on the person's profile picture and what do I see?

NOT an old Sigma Chi from State. No siree. I have no effing clue who this person is. However, they are my Facebook "friend" now. It just so happened that there is someone else out there with the same exact (not so common) name. They look just the same in the small picture until you have access to their profile.

I thought this was pretty hilarious considering I felt like total crap yesterday. Y'all know how sensitive I am.

Ah, my ego is back in tact. :)

"I really hate to say this, but I have no idea who you are"

So......my Jamma bubble was bursted today. I mean, how could anyone forget us? ;)

I know some of you are on Facebook and others aren't, so I will give a quick explanation. Facebook is this giant online community and basically you ask other people to be your "friends" and you send messages (public or more like emailing) to people. It's like a level below traditional emailing, so you can say hey to people you wouldn't email, call, etc. And you can just have short conversations back and forth. You can also see what people are doing now, so it's neat to see what's going on with people you would usually have no clue what happened to.

ANYWAY, I was going to class the other day, and I saw this Sigma Chi that used to go to State. He was one year younger than us, and we all totally knew him. So, I got on Facebook a few days later and said that I thought I saw him, and was he going to school here. Luckily, I sent him a message that was of the private variety...meaning I would not be humiliated in public, except now I am telling everyone.

His response to my message?

"I really hate to say this, but I have no idea who you are."

Ouch.

And the thing is, I had this fleeting thought that maybe he didn't remember me. But then, I thought I was just being silly.

What a shattered ego I have today.

Cheddar Cheese Grits

OK, so this weekend I was in Destin with my sister and her friends for her bachelorette party. One of the girls is an intern at Southern Progress in the test kitchen (I'd weigh 1000 pounds if that were my job). She made breakfast for everyone on Saturday morning, and this is the recipe for the Cheddar Cheese Grits Casserole that was sooooo delicious. Mind you, I don't even like grits, and I couldn't get enough of this. Enjoy!

Southern Living
Cheddar Cheese Grits Casserole (43388.1)Prep: 15 min., Cook: 10 min., Bake: 40 min.
4 cups milk
1/4 cup butter
1 cup uncooked quick-cooking grits
1 large egg, lightly beaten
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
2 cups (8 ounces) shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Garnish: parsley sprigs Bring milk just to a boil in a large saucepan over medium-high heat; gradually whisk in butter and grits. Reduce heat, and simmer, whisking constantly, 5 to 7 minutes or until grits are done. Remove from heat.Stir in egg and next 3 ingredients. Pour into a lightly greased 11- x 7-inch baking dish. Sprinkle evenly with grated Parmesan cheese.Bake, covered, at 350° for 35 to 40 minutes or until mixture is set. Serve immediately. Garnish, if desired.

don't try this take 2

today's "don't try this" was inspired by a trip to target this morning......

DON'T TRY ON SWIM SUITS!

we're headed to the beach in a couple of weeks and i thought i would look for a new swim suit....i though surely my body was in better shape over a year and a half after giving birth as opposed to last summer....(when i still should have been skinnier than i was, but that is a whole other subject)

so i found this really cute tankini.....not even a skimpy 2 piece, mind you,.....a very cute, modest, mommy tankini.....

so i tried on the top and i thought "ok....pretty cute.....this isn't so bad"
but then the bottoms went on......i still feel a little bit sick from what i saw in the mirror....i am just making myself feel better by saying that i had just chosen a size too small in the bottoms....although i could not bring myself to getting the size up.....

eliza kate was in the dressing room with me and when i asked her what she thought about mommy's swim suit, she started laughing....

i'm serious.....

Happy Birthday Kassi

Happy Birthday Kassi!!! Have a great day today. I wish I could be there. My doctor's appointment is in the morning, so I will have more news tommorow on the baby watch. Haley, I hope you are feeling better. Enjoy your day Kas!

Happy Birthday, Libby!

I always thought it was so fitting that Libby's birthday was on April Fool's Day. I'm sure we all have a long list of funny Libby moments.

Sarah Elizabeth, I hope you have a wonderful birthday full of love and laughter!

DON'T TRY THIS

ok....i just did something that i DO NOT recommend.....

i looked at my wedding and honeymoon pictures......

this was a mistake on so many levels..........

*like the fact that i SERIOUSLY doubt that i will ever be that thin or that tan again...
*my husband didn't work 80 hours+ back then
*i didn't have the post baby pooch (but now i do have the baby which is a great thing)
*i had a teeny bit of cellulite as opposed to my massive amounts now

i could go on. . .

now, i am farther from this event than a lot of you. . . going on 5 years, can you believe it??
so, to those of you who have been married this long or longer, DON'T pull out the wedding album (unless you still are that skinny and tan, and then i hate you).....

and those of you who just got married, BE WARNED......

love
kendy

Thief in the Night

Well, I'm not sure when it was, but the camper at our hunting camp was broken into and almost everything was stolen sometime in the past week or so. Michael went out there last night to get everything ready for this weekend (he's turkey hunting), and he found a window broken out. The jerks stole all of his good camo, my camo, my boots, Michael's bow, duck calls, the TV, and even the battery to the camper, etc, etc, etc. I am irate, and Michael is so upset. They also broke into his best friend's camper next to ours and took lots of his stuff, too. Hopefully our homeowners insurance will cover some of it. What a mess....

She's Not Leaning Towards "Crystal Davis"

Hey everybody! I just talked to Haley...poor thing is having terrible morning sickness. BUT the good news is Patrick got a new job, they bought this cute house (see above) and they are thrilled about being pregnant! Congratulations!

Haley asked me to post this and let all of you know about the blog Patrick started: http://patrickandhaley.blogspot.com.

And so another Jamma baby is on the way...

Southern Gentlemen

I know this is totally unrelated to the Jammas, but I think we all have the right to post anything (within reason) that we want on here! I just wanted to say that I am so glad that there are still "southern gentlemen" around! Twice today I have been in an elevator full of men, and twice they have parted the way once we got to the bottom to let me out. You just don't see that much anymore. Mind you, each time it was a different group of strangers to me, and they will probably never see me again, but they all had the manners to do the gentlemanly thing. Crissie, I know you'll teach Taylor these things!
Have a great day, and I hope someone does something nice for you all!

1,2,3,4, I Declare a Picture War!!!

This is from a random night at Penny's parent's house...donning some random old clothes of Barb's! Now, everyone else needs to dig out funny old pictures and post them! This could be really fun! The only rules are that they are "clean" pictures. There are other people who can see this blog.

I have a lot more where this came from!

Jessica's update

Hi Girls! It's taken me a long time to find some time to post my update. The month of January was so crazy around our house. Lee and I are doing great. We're living in Brandon on the reservoir. I'm teaching high school at Northwest Rankin and love it. I'm finishing my master's this summer at MC in Educational Leadership. The degree will allow me me to be an administrator, but I'm not sure I'm ready to leave the classroom yet. I teach seniors, and they're so fun, so I may just stay there for a while. Lee is the assistant to the Central District Transportation Commissioner, Dick Hall. So he kinda works for MDOT, but because Comm. Hall is elected, he really doesn't. Confusing, I know! Alyssa got married two weekends ago, so that has taken up most of our time, but I also had my huge licensure exam for grad school the weekend before that and a huge project due last week. So things have finally slowed down. I have loved reading about what has been going on with all of you. What a great idea, Christi! I would love to get together with anyone who's around. Let's plan to get together soon.
I'm in Starkville right now and am sitting in the new bookstore while I type this. It's amazing! The whole campus looks really good. It makes me miss being here because I think of all the fun times we all had. But, hello, I did live here after everyone left, and it was not so fun. I have to keep reminding myself of that! I miss you guys so much and love you!
I have a blog where I post a lot of junk. Here's the address: www.leeandjesshill.blogspot.com

Sad News

Hi everyone,

My grandfather (dad's side) had a massive stroke at the end of last week. He is completely paralyzed on his left side and unable to talk. The doctors don't expect him to make it through the week. My dad has seven siblings, so a lot of people are about to lose someone...

If you feel so inclined, please say a prayer.

Thank you.

Libby's update

Here goes the Rhett's update: Parker and I are still living in Memphis. He is working for State Farm as an Agency Field Specialist and has an interview Monday to become an Agent! If he becomes an agent, which I have faith that he will, there is a chance that we will move. We are excited about the possibility. It depends on where agencies are available but the places we would love to live are Chattanooga, Nashville, or Huntsville. Memphis would be okay too. So, we will see. I am still teaching 3rd grade and really liking it. My kids are sooo sweet this year which makes it even more fun! We just celebrated our one year anniversary and can't believe it has been that long. We had a great first year and think marriage is the best thing ever. Time flies when you are having fun! As far as starting a family goes, we are not quite ready yet. But, we got a puppy this summer. He is a Springer Spaniel named Scout. We love him and, as all of you who have pets do, treat him like our kid. It is so good to hear all of your updates. I miss all of you and often think of all of the great times we had in college.

This is a picture of us in Chicago.
We went in August and had a great time!

This is our house in Memphis.

Here is Scout.
I mean, don't you just want to kiss him?

Cooper's update

Well, here goes on the Ogg update...things have been really crazy for us over the past 6 months. We are finally settling into our new house in Charlottesville, VA, after finally putting up our school "hats" and getting diplomas. I am working in Richmond as an associate dentist in a practice. I have been there 6 months now and can not believe it has been that long. It was incredibly hard at first, but is getting easier as the bull comes faster. Garrett is busy at work as he does his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Virginia. We don't see each other that much and that is draining. The mom and pop are doing well. I do expect some visitors very soon or am going to get my feelings hurt. We just returned from a great little getaway in Mexico; much needed renewal for us since we are never together. I will try and send some pics of that but doubt I can figure it out. Love you all much.

Update

This is our dog Harley.

I am not very good with all of the computer stuff because it feels like it takes up too much time. However, I will try to keep everyone updated with what is going on in the Daviss lives. We moved back to Madison a few months ago, and I have never been so glad to get back home. I am still pushing pills (legally), and I love my job too. It is so much better than retail. Patrick and I are ready to start a family so hopefully that will happen sooner rather than later. We do have a dog named Harley, and he is crazy.

Dropping In

It has been fun to see pics and find out what's been happening with many of you. Keep them coming...I would love to see more!

Just dropping in to say hello. I hope all of you got an extra day off for MLK weekend to relax and do fun stuff.

That is a pic of my cousin Sommer and me. It was her 6th birthday this past weekend, and I had the best time entertaining her.

School started last week and things are picking up once again. Life is busy, but life is good. Please keep in touch!

Love,
Anisa

Brewer's update

Well I guess I should do an update on me since I didn't do that already. Michael and I still live in Madison, and probably will for the rest of our lives. We really love it here! I just started a new job at Horne LLP in their marketing department. So far I really like it. It is definitely going to keep me on my toes! Michael is still working for BellSouth (or AT&T since the merger went through). He's been with them for almost 7 years now! Here's a picture of us...not very recent, but you get the idea!
No kids just yet...that would not be very nice of me to start a new job and say "By the way, I'm going to need a couple of months off in about 9 months." Somehow, I just don't think that would go over very well! We are always working on our house and debating if we want to go ahead and move into a bigger one or not. That is almost a daily discussion. I adore our house right now, but I get antsy and want to move, too! Here's a picture of our house:

OK, I said we don't have kids, but we kinda do. We have 2 dogs and 2 cats that we treat like kids. Sometimes I call our house the Phillips Zoo. Below are pictures of them:

This is Rocky. He's 3 years old and he's a Yorkshire Terrier. He's my first baby!

This is Max. He's 2 and he's a Yorkie/Maltese mix. He's crazy!

This is Cat. We are very creative with our cat's names. She is participating in her favorite activity: sleeping.

Finally, this is Gray. She is a stray we adopted from the woods behind our house on Easter in 2005, so this past Easter was her pseudo-first birthday.

Well, that's about it for me right now! Stay in touch!!

Love, Christi

Kassi's Update

I am seriously so excited to see this blog! Brewer, this was a GREAT idea. In keeping with tradition, I will share my update:

I still work at Southern Farm Bureau Life Insurance in Jackson, Miss., as a corporate communicator in the PR department. However, it's also the complaint department, the craft department and the no-where-else-for-this-to-go department. I love my job. No, really, I do!

I am still involved with lots of volunteer organizations. I get made fun of all the time because of my need to volunteer. My co-workers call me a "volunteer-whore." NICE.

I am not married. I am not engaged. I am still single. Yes, I know. I am officially the last of the Jammas left in Single Land. I dated a wonderful guy for a year and half--and still love him dearly--but we've recently broken up based on a mutual decision. I don't know where that will lead me. Ok. Enough depression for one day. Ha.

Like Nee, I am also in grad school, working on my master's degree in corporate communication at Mississippi College. I love school. I always was (and still am) such a dork!

Hope everyone else can figure this out, because I sure want to be able to keep in touch with y'all!

Here's a picture from Hillary's rehearsal dinner. It isn't really a great picture or anything, I just don't want everyone else to post a picture and me not!!

Love you.

kendy's (aka jank, kwendy, jankins, kwanzaa) update

i'm so pleased that i was asked to be a part of the jamma blog.....must be feeling guilty still about giving our room the shaft at the little christmas party (complete with locked doors) all those years ago.....

:)

things are wonderful here in madison....john is still working very hard as a resident doctor in orthopaedic surgery.....we look forward to when we can spend more time with him.....believe it or not, eliza kate is over 16 months old...she is so much fun....she walks and "talks" and fills my days with more joy than i can ever put into words.....we love having the jammas drop by to see us, so when you are in the area, please come play with us!

Crissie's update

Hey girls! This is such a great idea. We are in Chattanooga, TN since July. It is wonderful here. All the really fun things to do are on hold, however, since I can't go rafting or skiing these days! Here is my newest picture. Terrible of me, but you can see how huge I am getting. Taylor is due in April and we can hardly wait!
This is my other child, Chuck, who most of you know. In case you don't, he is the fattest beagle ever born and loves to cuddle with anyone who will sit still. He is very excited about Taylor!
This picture is very tiny for some reason. This is what we did this summer in Mexico. Don't we look like a Corona commercial. It's the only picture on my computer, so I will post a better one of us later! And the last picture is Taylor. He can't wait to meet all of you and grow up to marry his own DG one day. No other tramp will do or my baby!

I can't wait to read all of your updates and be able to keep in touch. Love yall! Crissie

Nee's Update

Hey everyone!

Thanks, Christi, for this great idea. I miss everyone also! We are all so lucky to have the college experience that we had. I couldn't have asked for better friends.

I wrote a post on my personal blog a while back about the Jammas, in case some of you didn't get a chance to see it: http://access-anisa.blogspot.com/2005/12/jammas.html

I would love to know what's going on with everyone! Here are a few updates and photos on me:

That's my husband Bert, me, Haley and Patrick
Bert's friend got married this summer in Montgomery, and it was so much fun to catch up with The Gayles.

We live in Athens, Georgia and moved to this house a few months ago. Now we can walk...

here! :)

Bert is a high school math teacher and golf coach. I do public relations at UGA for the Institute of Ecology. I am also in graduate school, working on my Master's in Public Administration. The goal is to be in an administrative position at a university.

We love Athens, and are able to get back to Starkville to visit family every few months. Here's a pic of me, Rani and TD...

No baby pictures yet...perhaps after graduate school we'll get to that. :)

Lots of love to all of you! Can't wait to get an update on everyone!

Some days...

Dear Jammas,

For most of us it has been about 4 and a half years since we left that great place we all met each other at MSU. Time really has flown, and it's amazing what all has happened to each of us since then. But, to me, it still feels like yesterday.

Some days I wake up and can't believe I can't just walk down the hall to see one of you and figure out what we are going to wear when we go out that night. Some days I am driving down the road and can't believe that we are all so far apart. Some days, when I am at home folding clothes or cleaning house, I can't believe I am not waiting until it's at least 9:00 so that we can go to 'insert the name of any bar in Starkville here' . Some days I just miss the old days!

This blog is an effort for us to get back in touch, stay in touch, and touch each other with new and exciting news in our lives. My hope is that, with one centralized location for us all to post, we can become better at all of these things.

I look forward to some day when we can all be together again!

Love,
Christi
